Progression to a New AGE

Greetings Fellow Rattlers,

Welcome back to The Hill! On behalf of the 36th Student Senate of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, we extend you greetings and are extremely excited about the upcoming school year and the goals that will be accomplished by our Student Government Association. The Student Senate is an integral branch of SGA and looks forward to the opportunity to serve the Student Body by being a direct representation of the interests and concerns of the students.

As the legislative body of SGA, we are responsible for the allocation of a $3.3. million Activity and Service (A&S) budget each year. This is a fee collected from students’ tuition, which in turn is allocated to different agencies. These include the new Campus Recreation Center, the Marching 100, the Essential Theatre and many other registered student organizations which you may join. Most of the events and programs sponsored with student A&S fees are free to the students. We do our very best to ensure that the activity and service fee you pay is used properly and that you continue to have the opportunity be actively involved in the FAMU community.

Senators have a responsibility to keep students’ best interest in mind when voting on issues, allocating money, and drafting and enacting legislation. Therefore, we encourage you to hold your elected officials accountable and invite you to visit us any time on the second floor of the Student Union Building. Senate Meetings are held every Monday at 6 p.m. in the Senate Chambers except in the event of a Holiday. We look forward to meeting you. Ebony ManchionSenate President
