Student shot outside Chubby’s in stable condition

A student was shot and wounded early Saturday morning outside of Chubby’s Night Club on 1833 W. Tennessee St. after an altercation inside.

At the request of the family the victim’s name is being withheld.

The 20-year-old victim moved from critical but stable to stable condition, said Sgt. James Fairfield, according to a report on http://www.tallahassee.com Saturday.

Responding to an emergency shots fired call, Lt. Ken Sumpter said the victim suffered from a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest.

Sumpter also said Friday it was reported that there were no witnesses to the shooting outside.

“I was coming around the corner from the VIP section and saw a guy lying on the ground,” said Kamelah Muhammad, a sophomore business administration student from Chicago. “Everyone was standing in shock.”

Muhammad didn’t know the victim and his friends, but said she stayed around to offer words of encouragement.

“I stayed around and told them that God will take care of this,” Muhammad said. She added that she helped direct traffic outside of the club, which closed around 1:15 a.m.

“After the scene cleared, I drove the victim’s two friends to the hospital,” Muhammad said.

“His condition is stable,” said Donna Merritt, a Tallahassee Memorial Hospital nursing supervisor. “It’s against company policy to list anything beyond a patient’s condition.”
