Brother to Brother

Trustee Miller,

I must commend you for the leadership and courage that you displayed at the historic September 28, 2004 Board of Trustees Meeting. Regardless of whether students agreed or disagreed with your position, I must say that I respect you as a person, leader, and most importantly my fraternity brother. When a tough and crucial issue arose with the ousting of our University President, Brother Miller, you stood up and represented the voice of alumni, faculty, parents and most importantly the FAMU student body. As your Student Government colleague, I understand that instances demand thorough research, sympathetic understanding, and difficult decision-making. When I ponder this situation, a quote from President Woodrow Wilson comes to mind; “A man is not as big as his belief in himself; he is as big as the number of persons who believe in him.” I feel safe in speaking on behalf of the student body in saying that we believe in you, my brother and stand by you during this critical time in our university’s history.

Respectfully submitted,Torey AlstonJunior Senator
