‘King’ cometh

Adding to this week’s Florida State University homecoming events is comedian and actor Cedric The Entertainer.

Cedric, who starred in “Barbershop,” “The Original Kings of Comedy” and “Cedric The Entertainer Presents,” will headline tonight’s annual homecoming “PowWow,” at the Leon County Civic Center.

“Cedric is a comedian and actor loved and appreciated by everyone,” said Ben Hsiang, marketing director of PowWow.

“Even though PowWow is an FSU event, we are hoping that the general public will be interested in the event as well.”

Although PowWow has no affiliation with FAMU, many FAMU students are interested in the event because they are fans of the comedian.

“I enjoy Cedric as an entertainer and look forward to going to the show,” said Kristen Dixon, a 20-year-old junior nursing student from Atlanta.

Laura Folio, the assistant director of PowWow, said tickets for the show have been selling quickly.

“Tickets are going fast and you do not want to be seated somewhere you are uncomfortable,” Folio said.

Promoters of the event are hoping Cedric the Entertainer will attract a more diverse, less traditional audience than FSU is accustomed to.

Aside from diversity, PowWow is also designed to help encourage school spirit before the FSU football game that begins at 7 p.m. Saturday evening.

Aside from Cedric the Entertainer, PowWow includes performances and appearances by FSU dance troupes, Bobby Bowden and the Seminole Football team, the Seminole cheerleaders and other FSU organizations.

Non-FSU students are not excited about the homecoming activities but are interested in seeing Cedric The Entertainer.

“Since I am not an FSU student, I am not particularly interested in attending the pre-show festivities,” said Jeremey Darity, a 22-year-old senior engineering student from Tallahassee.

“But, I will definitely stop by the show.”
