Vehicle catches fire in garage

The Tallahassee Fire Department responded to a car fire Thursday morning on the top south side level of the university’s parking garage.

Firefighters used Class A foam to put out the flames that demolished a black Cadillac Seville with an Orlando Magic license plate.

As a precautionary measure, Officer J. Cotton with the FAMU Police Department instructed onlookers to leave the building. It took TFD approximately five minutes to put out the blaze on the vehicle which was locked and secure.

Lt. Jerry Byrd of TFD said the fire could have started by a possible fuel or oil leak on the exhaust manifold.”The vehicle is a total loss,” Byrd said. FAMU PD did not identify the owner/driver of the vehicle “That information will be released when the case is closed,” Cotton said.

The vehicle was removed from the garage by American Eagle Wrecker Tow Company and will remain at the company’s lot until the owner and the insurance company is identified.

According to John Kirby, director of Parking Services, the vehicle was legally parked.
