VOLLEYBALLThe Lady Rattlers ended a four-match road trip Oct. 3 and 4 with a trip to Virginia to play Hampton and Norfolk State. Friday night FAMU defeated the Lady Pirates in three straight games 30-13, 30-15, 30-18. Sophomore Adriana Kostadinova led both teams with 13 kills. Outside hitter Andreina Ruiz posted a match-high six service aces. The next day the ladies clobbered Norfolk State by not letting them score more than 10 points in any game (30-9, 30-8, 30-10). Three players posted 11 kills for an average .499 hitting percentage. They have improved to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the MEAC.

MEN’S TENNISFAMU and 9 other teams competed Oct. 2-5 for the Annual HBCU Tennis Championship held at FAMU’s courts. The Rattlers prevailed over last year’s winner Hampton 25-23. Leading the Rattlers were Zura Zhvania and Yves Sinson. Zhvania ran through the B flight singles and defeated teammate Frank Green in the finals. Sinson made it to the finals in the C flight singles event before falling to

MEN’S BASKETBALLFAMU was picked by the MEAC head coaches and media relations directors as the favorite to win the 2003-04 MEAC regular season title. The Rattlers received eight first-place votes and 385 total points. Last season, Florida A&M finished in fourth place. An Last season’s All-MEAC first team senior Terrence Woods was voted the preseason Player of the Year after leading last year’s team in scoring with 20.5 points per game. Last year’s MEAC Rookie of the Year Devin Green of Columbus, Ohio joins the Rattlers this season.
