HAMPTON UNIVERSITYThe Women’s Cross Country team won the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlin Invitational Saturday. This four-team meet was the first of the season. All-MEAC track performer Jade Fisher, led the Lady Pirates with an overall time of 20:27.2. The team also took third and fifth place by Charmaine Darden and Jitka Vaulikova, respectively.

DELAWARE STATE UNIVERSITYDelaware State Hornets soccer team traveled to Ohio to play Youngstown State University. The ladies lost 0-17 in Friday afternoon’s action. The Penguins broke the previous school record of 14 goals set last year. With the loss, Delaware State drops to 0-2.

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND-EASTERN SHOREAt the Gardner Invitational, the volleyball team finished in second place after losing to Central Connecticut State University 3-1. The team came from behind to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson University 28-30, 28-30, 30-17, 30-18, 15-8. Sandra Dzile finished with 119 assists for the day and 57 against FDU to set another school record. Jana Milin and Chrissy Jacobs were named to the All-Tournament. After the tournament, UMES’ record was 7-2.

NORFOLK STATE UNIVERSITYWomen’s basketball coach James Sweat will be missing three key members from the upcoming year’s team. Freshman Ciara Buie, senior Tamika Cox and junior LaToya Rawls are not enrolled in school. Buie, a 5-9 guard did not qualify for Division I basketball and is trying to enroll at a junior college. Cox, a 5-11 wing player played in all 28 games last season and set a school record for individual scoring in a game with 28 points. Rawls decided not to return to the team and has made clear her plans to transfer.
