FSU takes wins again

The Lady Rattlers played their second home game against the Florida Seminoles Thursday evening and were not able to pull out a win, as they were defeated 9-2.

The Lady Rattlers started the game on top as infielder Raven Rushton popped up to first base to bring teammate Eria Williams in for the first run in the bottom of the first.

The Lady Rattlers continued in the bottom of the second as Junior Javetta Dryer scored putting FAMU up 2-0.

“We were already up, but the run just added to it and proved we can hang,” Dryer said.

The Lady Seminoles came back in the top of the fourth inning starting up a rally as three players scored.

FSU shortstop Tatiana George scored after she got on base from a single up the middle. Pitcher Jessica Van Der Linden hit a double enabling George to eventually run home.

Teammate catcher Elisa Vasquez singled to get on base and later scored. Going into the top of the fifth inning the Lady Seminoles were up 3-2.

The Lady Rattlers let the lead slip away in the top of the fifth as FSU scored four runs with only one hit, making the score 7-2. FAMU committed three costly errors.

“They jumped out to a quick lead but we came back from behind,” said FSU head coach Eve Gaw. “We just started scoring.”

In the top of the seventh inning, the Seminoles scored two more runs and went up 9-2. The Lady Rattlers were not able to regain the lead in the bottom of the seventh and the game ended 9-2.

“We came out strong in the first inning,” Rushton said. “Our pace just started to die and we just couldn’t take advantage of our early runs.”

The Seminoles had 10 more at bats than FAMU and five more hits.

Their last home game is Saturday, April 6 against Morris Brown.
