Twisted Words…

Allegations Fail To Hinder CandidateWednesday, March 5, 2003

Dear Editor: I am usually extremely anxious to pick up the latest issue of the FAMUan and read about the latest campus, local, and national news. However, after reading last Friday’s paper, I was appalled and somewhat angry by the reporter’s manipulation of my words. I do understand that it is a common technique among some newspaper staff to twist around people’s words in order to make the story more appealing and “juicy,” and even though I cannot erase what has been written and published, I will attempt to give readers an adequate interpretation of my feeling toward the election situation. It was implied, in the article about the sophomore attendant race, that I was upset about a disqualified candidate continuing to campaign and having the opportunity to run after being disqualified. It was written that I “did not understand why her name was even on the ballot.” This statement is very untrue, as I understand completely the procedures and rules associated with the election process. I was also misquoted saying that I believed that Darensburg came forward in an effort to ‘save’ the disqualified candidate, and that her timing ‘didn’t sit well with me.’ I did not say these things, nor did I imply that any candidate was attempting to save their campaign by getting someone else to come forward with a fake confession. I did not say that I felt that Brown was at fault. I do not know the entire story to be able to judge it, and determine who is at fault. I do believe that the matter is being investigated, and I trust the FAMU judicial branch to make an intelligent decision about the matter, given the evidence and facts presented to them. It is my belief that GOD is in control of this situation, and that HIS perfect will is inevitable. I would like to express my sincere congratulations to all of this year’s officers and representatives. I trust that you will always serve in the best interest of the students. Our very interesting election process has taught me much about myself, and about others.-Tiffany Monique WilliamsRattlerchik906@aol.comP.O. Box 71135915-5446
