Mistakes cause two Rattlerette losses

The Rattlerettes played a double header on Sunday afternoon against the Bethune- Cookman Wildcats. Unfortunately the women fell short in both games due to numerous mistakes. FAMU lost their first game with a score of 2-0 followed by a 2nd game loss of 2-1.

The Rattlerettes were excited about playing this game especially after their disappointing loss to FSU on Feb. 18.

After freshman pitcher Danielle Brown walked BCC freshman Jamie Tanksley, BCC senior outfielder Jennifer East hit a single, and Tanksley was able to come home making the score 1-0

The Rattlers tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the fifth after sacrificing two outs so that sophomore Ashley Mitchell could get on third base. They fell short though as Teresa Scott hit a fly ball into left field.

“When I was on third base I just knew that one of my teammates was going to bat me home. I had that much faith in them,” said Mitchell. “But we just couldn’t make it happen.”

The Lady Wildcats ended the game in the top of the 7th inning. Freshman Amber Jackson was able to hit in the hole between first and second base enabling senior outfielder Jennifer East to run home, making the score 2-0.

In the second game’s second inning the Rattlers came back strong with a 3-up, 3-down inning,

The Wildcats began to put on the pressure as junior third baseman Tiala Tagaloa hit a double in the top of the third inning. The Rattlerettes fumbled with the ball twice enabling senior Jamie Scott and outfielder Chloe Thomas of the Wildcats to score on a fast break.

“FAMU hasn’t been executing the plays,” said Kevin Clethen of the FAMU baseball team. “BCC just got their head in the game.”

The game remained 2-0 going into the 4th inning until junior infielder Raven Rushton hit a double and freshman Shatoya Johnson ran home to make the score 2-1.

In the top of the fifth, Thomas hit to the pitcher Monique Mattingly who fumbled the ball. Then Scott hit a double and then the throw back into the infield was overthrown, so Scott was able to run home

With the score 3-1, the Rattlers ended the top of the 7th with a 3-up, 3-down inning, but they could not pull off a win.

The game ended with the final score of 3-1.The four errors as well as countless mistakes lead to both losses in the games against BCC.

The next Rattler game is scheduled for Feb. 27 in Orlando where they will be taking on Central Florida. The Tallahassee Democrat Invitational will be held the second week of March.
