Celebrate Valentine’s Day

I’m pretty sure some of you are not into Valentine’s Day. If I’m right, you think it’s too commercialized and florists, greeting cards and chocolate companies, invented it. You may also think there are 364 other days to show love.

Try to gain a different perspective. There’s nothing wrong with Valentine’s Day. If you show love every other day of the year, you shouldn’t have a problem showing love on this day too.

If you’re worried about buying gifts, I promise you, the people who love you don’t care how much money you spend on them.

If you can’t afford or don’t want to buy cards or gifts, call or visit your loved ones. Surprise them with a singing gram. Even if you’re the worst singer in the world, sing an “I love you” song you made up.

If you have a special talent like painting, crocheting, poster making or anything, create something for the person or people you love. The sentimental and priceless things will be remembered long after the flowers die and the chocolates are eaten.

It is truly the thought that counts on this holiday.

Valentine’s Day is a day to show love to all people- not just boyfriends and girlfriends. So, for those of you who will be without a “boo” today, hook up with your girls or boys. Go out on the town or make it a Blockbuster night. Have a good time with your crew.

My boyfriend lives three hours away by plane. My girlfriends are single. So, we’re going to give a lucky restaurant a lot of business tonight. Then, we’re going to hit up the dollar movies. Tonight, we are each other’s dates.

If you will spend this holiday alone, try a little self-love. Make yourself an excellent dinner. Try something better than your usual. Then, write yourself a love note. Write down all the things that make you great.

When you’re done, seal the letter in an envelope and save it. Open it the next time you’re not feeling so good. Better yet, open it next Valentine’s Day.

Love is a spectacular thing. Hopefully, it will overcome any negativity you may feel about today. Share love with your friends and family. Don’t forget to share it with yourself.

Just in case no one says this to you today, I love you. Happy Valentine’s Day.
