Sports bar offers bonafide barbecue

Smokey Bones BBQ Sports Bar at 3131 Capital Circle NE, about 2 miles from Interstate 10, is the newest concept from Stardon Restaurants, the company that owns The Olive Garden, Red Lobster and Bahama Breeze.

It offers sizable portions of amazing food at a reasonable price.

The aroma of fragrant meat fills the room. Large platters of award-winning baby back and St. Louis style ribs, barbecued chicken and pulled pork are seasoned, marinated and smoked from 4 – 11 hours on the premises.

The menu items are taste-tested twice a day to ensure a standard of excellence and quality. The portions are huge, so save room for dessert.

Key lime pie, apple cobbler a la mode and doughnuts which have been coated in cinnamon sugar and rolled in a strawberry – sour cream sauce are sure to tempt customers.

The friendly service and laidback atmosphere make this hub ideal for the after work, weekend football and dine-out with friends crowd.

At the full bar with 36 televisions, it’s not at all difficult to get lost in the fast-paced atmosphere.

“Oh my God, I went there every day for a week after I went the first time,” said Rene Yopp, general manager of McKibbon Hotel Management. “You’ve got to try the pulled pork.”

For those who don’t eat pork, the sliced smoked turkey breasts are a good alternative. The mushroom onion burger is also highly recommended.

Customers will also find that Smokey Bones has an extremely clean environment. Bar, floors and tables are all well kept during heavy and not so heavy business times.

At Smokey Bones, the service is always the same: tasty food, cheerful spirits and happy people who yell “hey” every time the bartender is tipped.

This is the only time people should go against their mom’s advice, and follow the crowd.

Smokey Bones gets 5 out of 5 forks on the Thomas Taste Scale.

Smokey Bones is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. and 11 a.m.- midnight on Friday and Saturday.
