Corbin, our school is not a ‘dump’

An article was printed in the Tallahassee Democrat where James Corbin stated that FAMU DRS was a dump. Corbin graduated from FAMU DRS and is now a member of FAMU board of trustees. Many feel that he had the best in mind when he made his statement. It is said that his words were taken out of context and all he wanted to do was help the school with constructive criticism. Here are some of the comments that were made by FAMU DRS family members when asked the question, “How do you feel about the article written stating that FAMU DRS is a dump?”n”FAMU DRS has in the past and will continue to produce outstanding young men and women to society due to the will and desire of the entire FAMU DRS family to overcome any adversity that comes our way,”said Ramon J. Alexander, a senior and the current SGA president.n”He was stating the obvious. FAMU [DRS] has been on the decline for the last few years and no one chose to say anything” said sophomore Tyrelle Blair.n”The media should not focus on negatives but the positives,” said Charles Beamer, a history teacher.n”The article…is a disgrace. I disagree with this article because…I have attended FAMU DRS for two and one-half years and have learned a lot. The teachers at FAMU DRS make sure their students get the best education possible,” said junior Shawntae Robinson.
