This week in sports history: Jan. 13, 1999 – NBA: Michael Jordan retires from the league for the second time.

Jan. 14, 1973 – NFL: The Miami Dolphins complete the only perfect season in league history by defeating the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII, 14-7.

Jan. 15, 1967 – NFL: The Green Bay Packers, coached by Vince Lombardi, won the first ever Super Bowl 35-10 over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jan. 16, 1942 – Baseball: U.S. president Franklin Roosevelt gives baseball permission to continue playing games while the country fights in World War II.

Jan. 18, 1974 – College Basketball: UCLA’s unprecedented 88-game winning streak comes to an end when Notre Dame beats them 71-70. It’s the Bruins’ first loss since Jan. 23. 1971, when they lost to… Notre Dame.
